The Greenways are itineraries that take advantage of the old train layouts to make tracks for cyclists and hikers.
These tracks link the territories town’s and connect the diverse landscapes of the area in an easy and comfortable way, thanks to the gentleness and width of its slopes. Therefore, with the exception of a few layouts of greater difficulty, these routes are suited to almost everyone, be it families, groups or enthusiasts.
ROUTE OLOT - GIRONA
It was the first of the routes created in our territory. In 1993 the recovery of the train track between Les Preses and Olot was started, expanding its layout and extending it to Girona. It is one of most frequented Greenways, both as a complete or partial itinerary.
It starts in Olot, inside of the Natural Park of la Garrotxa´s Volcanic Zone, and climbs to the Coll de Bas by the upper part of the Fluvia river. It goes down gently by Hostoles´ valley following the course of Brugent´s river. It borders the Ter river, gliding to Girona through meadows and orchards.

The route starts in Girona and basically follows the old train layout, connecting the towns of Quart, Llambilles, Cassa de la Selva, Llagostera, Sta. Cristina d´Aro, Castell d´Aro, S´Agaro and St. Feliu de Guixols. In its 24 miles route it glides through the south of the Girones and it descends gently by the Baix Emporda, right in the middle of the Cadiretes and les Gavarres massif’s.
This route, often is complemented with the other Carrilet´s route that links Olot to Girona, thus completing some 60 miles with a 1600 feet slope.

Route with two differentiated parts. The first part is a paved section exclusive for cyclists and hikers, and is part of the “Iron and Charcoal Route”. It starts at Ripoll and gently climbs to St. Joan les Abadesses taking advantage of the old train layout.
The second part links the Ripolles with La Garrotxa and it takes place in a secondary road with scant traffic. After an ascending pedalling we will get to Santigosa´s pass (3490 feet), listed as a 2nd rate port. Flat section up to Vallfogona´s road, which takes you to Olot. In this last section, with more traffic and a quicker layout, we advise you to be careful in the descent.
